The Australian government is introducing significant changes to combat visa hopping in the Student (Subclass 500) visa scheme, ensuring that pathways to study in Australia are more genuine and streamlined.
Effective 1 July 2024, visitor visa holders will no longer be able to apply for Student visas onshore and Temporary Graduate visa holders will also be restricted from applying for Student visas onshore.
These changes are designed to prevent the continuous application for temporary visas onshore without a clear path to permanent residency. It’s crucial for clients and potential migrants to understand these changes to plan their migration journey effectively.
Stay tuned for the detailed legislative instruments that will bring these changes into effect.
