As we approach the new financial year, here’s a quick reminder of some important changes coming into effect on 1 July 2025 that may impact your skilled visa applications, particularly if you’re an employer looking to sponsor staff, or a visa applicant planning your next steps.

We first covered these updates in our previous blog post, but with July fast approaching, it’s time for a refresher.

Income Threshold Increases

From 1 July, the Department of Home Affairs will increase the income thresholds for skilled visa nominations, in line with changes to the annual Average Weekly Ordinary Time Earnings (AWOTE). These thresholds set the minimum salary level required to sponsor a worker under certain streams:

  • Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT): rising to $76,515
  • Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT): increasing to $141,210
  • Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT): also rising to $76,515

These changes apply to new nomination applications lodged on or after 1 July 2025. Any applications submitted before that date can continue under the current thresholds.

Labour Market Testing (LMT)

If we are preparing to lodge a nomination application after 1 July, it’s important to ensure your LMT is in line with the new income thresholds (if required).
