Starting 1 July 2025, income thresholds for skilled visa programs are getting an increase to match the 4.6% rise in the Average Weekly Ordinary Time Earnings (AWOTE). If you’re planning to sponsor or apply for a skilled visa, here’s what you need to know.

What Are the New Thresholds?

  • Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT): Increasing from $73,150 to $76,515
    • This affects nominations for the Core Skills stream of the Subclass 482 Skills in Demand visa and the ENS Subclass 186 visa.
  • Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT): Increasing from $135,000 to $141,210.
    • This is for the Specialist Skills stream of the Subclass 482 SID visa.
  • Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT): Increasing from $73,150 to $76,515.
    • Impacts the Subclass 494 Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional visa and Subclass 187 RSMS (pending legislative approval).

What This Means for Employers and Applicants

Any new nomination applications submitted on or after 1 July 2025 must meet the updated income thresholds or the annual market salary rate (AMSR) for the role — whichever is higher. These changes are intended to ensure skilled migrants receive fair compensation aligned with market conditions.

Important: These new thresholds will not affect:

  • Existing visa holders
  • Nominations lodged before 1 July 2025
