Following the changes to the Training visa (Subclass 407) introduced earlier this year, further updates are set to take effect from 12 November 2026. Under the new requirements, applicants will generally need to be outside Australia when lodging their Subclass 407 visa application and when the visa is granted.
What is changing?
From 12 November 2026, applicants must generally:
- Be outside Australia when lodging their visa application.
- Be outside Australia when the visa is granted.
The Regulations do allow for certain applicants to apply from within Australia, provided they fall within a class specified by the Minister in a separate legislative instrument. No updates have been provided as yet regarding who may fall within this cohort.
This change builds upon the Subclass 407 reforms introduced on 11 March 2026, which changed the sponsorship and nomination requirements.
What does this mean for applicants?
For anyone considering a Subclass 407 visa, particularly those currently in Australia, these changes may affect where and when an application can be lodged. Namely, they must travel offshore now to apply.
The new requirements apply to applications made on or after 12 November 2026. If you’re considering a Training visa (Subclass 407) and are unsure how these changes may affect your plans, feel free to get in touch with the team at Unite Migration.’
