As the new financial year kicks off, Australian states have provided updates on their nomination allocations for skilled visas, intentionally targeting local skill shortages within the State Sponsored (Subclass 190) and Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (Subclass 491) visa schemes. Here’s a quick rundown of the key changes in each region:
Victoria
VIC has allocated 5,000 skilled visa nomination places for 2024-25, including 3,000 for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and 2,000 for the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491). More details will soon be available on the Live in Melbourne website.
Northern Territory
NT has increased to 1,600 nomination places, doubling the previous year’s allocation. Nomination applications are now accepted through the online portal.
South Australia
SA has allocated 3,800 places, with 3,000 for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and 800 for the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491), an increase of 1,500 places from last year.
Western Australia
WA has 5,000 nomination places for the year. The state plans to hold monthly invitation rounds starting in August 2024 and will continue to waive the $200 application fee.
Queensland
QLD’s allocation includes 1,200 places, equally divided between the Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) and Skilled Work Regional (subclass 491) visas.
New South Wales
NSW has allocated 5,000 places, with 3,000 for the Skilled Nominated visa and 2,000 for the Skilled Work Regional visa. Invitation rounds are scheduled throughout the financial year at irregular intervals.
Tasmania
TAS has allocated 2,860 places, with 2,100 for the Skilled Nominated visa and 760 for the Skilled Work Regional visa. The state’s Skilled Migration Program is set to reopen soon for new Registrations of Interest.
