Starting January 1, 2024, the Australian government has introduced exemptions to the 8547 condition for 417 visa holders, allowing visa holders to work for the same employer for more than 6 months without seeking prior permission in specific situations.

These include working in different locations, plant and animal cultivation, certain industries in northern Australia, natural disaster recovery, and critical sectors like agriculture, food processing, health, aged and disability care, childcare, tourism, and hospitality nationwide.

Calculating the 6-month period starts from the first day of work, encompassing various work types. The condition applies separately to each visa, and the period restarts with a new WHM visa or the grant of a Bridging visa with condition 8547. Requesting an extension can now be submitted via the Home Affairs website.
