A number of concessions will be made for specified subclass 482 and subclass 457 visa holders following the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and business’ and industry’s economic recovery needs.
After 30 June 2022, eligible applicants will be able to apply through the Temporary Residence Transition stream of the Employer Nominated Scheme (Subclass 186) pathway.
To be considered eligible, you must meet any of the following criteria:
Subclass 482 (Short-Term) Visa Holders
- Those who currently hold a subclass 482 (short-term) visa who have previously held or were an applicant for a subclass 457 visa that was subsequently granted;
- Those who currently hold a subclass 482 (short-term) visa and have been in Australia (cumulatively) for at least 12 months between 1 Feb 2020 and 14 Dec 2021 (This will commence on 1 July 2022).
Effectively, Applicants who have worked for their Australian employers whilst holding a Subclass 482 or 457 visa for a certain period of time, may transition to permanent residency through the Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186) (Temporary Residence Transition Stream) visa.
